A Collection of Tools and Links to Help Your Troop Succeed

Hello!  As a result of numerous requests during the last Woodbadge I training session I have posted a handful of tools and links that I have found useful while working with my Scouts in the past.  There are 3 sections here: Links, Tools and Camp Information Packages.

Links

Links to websites of resources that are essential to teaching your Troop what they need to become successful leaders in our society.

Animated Knots.com - Whether you are learning them or want an interactive method to teach your Scouts, Grog's site is a handy visual tool that helps overcome the challenges of teaching both simple and complex knots.

Atlas of Canada - an amazing tool from the Canadian Government that allows you to view and print custom topographical maps of any location in Canada down to a scale of 1:20,000.

Scouts.ca - The official site of Scouts Canada.  The best source for the most recent forms and policies.

Canadian Avalanche Center.ca - An excellent resource for information regarding mountain avalanche safety. Avalanche First Response Training is a web based training tool that the CAC provides to raise awareness and give the general public essential skills to help prevent and improve the chance of survival in avalanches.

Edmonton Naturalization Group - A group that promotes education and educates Edmontonians in their native environment.

Edmonton Overlanders - An Edmonton based orienteering club that holds regular activities, training sessions and races.

Tools

A collection of tools that I have collected and created that help you to save time and focus on what really matters, the Scouts. Where someone else has created a tool, I have done my best to credit them.  If you notice something that is incorrect or inaccurate, please let me know.

Scout Award Record - I built this tool to allow me to record the badge requirements at the end of each activity for each Scout.  Each quarter we would present badges earned in a ceremony.  If you keep the requirements completed for each boy, this will give you an "at a glance" look at what the Scouts have earned. Cells are locked and sheets are protected but if you really want to make some changes, there is no password restricting you.

Scout Schedule - Another tool I built to speed up the planning process. Note that the 3 year schedule still could use some improvements.

Camp Planning Tool - This is a collection of lists that come in useful while planning camps and outdoor activities.  Also included are the Activity Plan template and the Emergency Plan template that a Troop is required to submit to the group committee for each major outing.

Camp Information Packages

Note that these packages are not complete by any means.  Also, links, maps and descriptions are written by others.  I can't assume any responsibility for the instructions they provide.  All of the trips listed here require experienced outdoorsmen to complete them safely and those leaders must stand on their own merit.  I suggest that you do not step beyond your abilities.  That being said...they are each spectacular trips!
